“The Missing Class”
with Katherine Newman,
the Forbes Class of ’41 Professor of Sociology and Public Affairs at Princeton University, will discuss her new book The Missing Class. In a groundbreaking seven-year study, Newman illuminates the unique struggles of the 57 million Americans who are largely forgotten by the media, by politicians, and by those who create government safety nets. Unlike those living in poverty or the working poor, these Americans- transit workers, day-care providers, hospital attendants, teachers’ aides, clerical assistants- earn wages above the minimum, but below a secure standard of living.
